October Retail Sales Remain Weak

On a weekly level, ShopperTrak’s NRSE reported sales for the week ending October 31st were down -4.6 percent as compared to last year, while weekly sales decreased -1.2 percent versus the previous seven day period ending October 24th. Bill Martin, co-founder of ShopperTrak says, “If retailers begin to promote for the holidays, we would expect a small week over week increase in sales. However, if retailers hold back promotions, sales may be sluggish, leading to more weekly declines.”
